This is a lowercase focused beginners handwriting workbook for ages 5+, but as you’ll see, this workbook is much more than just a beginners level tool. This workbook has also been used and tested in all grade levels to quickly catch up students who are behind their peers, it’s for students who have gone through other curriculums and still have sloppy handwriting, and for those who need a handwriting workbook that cuts out the extra and gets down to the nuts and bolts.

This workbook is designed for 1-on-1 or very small group instruction.

The workbook uses an active tracing method, prompting a child to trace between two boundary lines. While most handwriting workbooks use a passive tracing method, such as tracing on dotted or dashed lines, active tracing encourages the writer to neatly trace within boundaries. Think of driving, the driver is actively tracing and the passenger is passively tracing. The driver is in control, making sure the vehicle is on their side of the road, as the car is moving they’re having to think ahead of time for any turns or stops. The passenger who is more passive is being led down the road and is told exactly where to go with no independence or thinking ahead needed. An active tracer gets to independently drive the vehicle (pencil) while working on neatness, correct sizing, spacing, and line placement.

The workbook also introduces letter strokes and shapes in a thoughtful and intelligent way. Similar letter formation types (e.g., c, a, d, etc.) will be grouped together and practiced on each page.

This repetition packed, but quick and effective workbook fits 5 lines of guided tracing, copying, and free-form writing practice on each page. This makes it perfect for the kid who loves to practice writing and for the one that lacks confidence in writing and prefers to complete the bare minimum.

The workbook has been created by a licensed pediatric occupational therapist and tested in the field with students of all learning levels.
